In the aldosterone metabolic pathway, aldosterone, hydrocortisone, corticosterone, cortisone, 18-hydroxycorticosterone, cortodoxone, deoxycorticosterone are typical biomarkers of primary hyperaldosteronism and resistant hypertension. They also are associated with cardiac and renal diseases.

ELISA kits are generally used to detect these hormone indicators, while each biomarker should be tested separately, and require a large amount of sample volume. Meanwhile the ELISA’s sensitivity does not meet the low-concentration of these hormones in animals. Therefore, we developed a robust and sensitive analysis method using UPLC-MS/MS, which is suitable for less sample volume and easy sample processing.
